This My Florida News Privacy Supplement (the “Supplement”) incorporates the University of Florida Online/Internet Privacy Statement (Policy Number: 12-001), available at https://policy.ufl.edu/policy/online-internet-privacy-statement/.
This Supplement makes additional disclosures that are specific to your use of this Website. In the event of any conflict between the University of Florida Online/Internet Privacy Statement and this Supplement, this Supplement shall take precedence to the extent permitted by law with respect to your use of this My Florida News Website.
1. Information We Collect
Collected automatically
When you visit the site, our server and analytics tools automatically receive some technical information: your IP address and general location, browser and operating system, the pages you view, the date and time of your visit, and the site you came from.
Information you give us
We only collect what you choose to send us. If you fill out our interest/contact form, we collect your email address, the non-profit name and description you provide, your website, the news category you pick, and the Florida counties you select. If you register for a user account on the site, we collect your email address and a password only — no additional profile information is required at registration, and no profile fields are currently configured for users to add after sign-up.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to operate and improve the site, respond to inquiries submitted through the contact form, understand site usage in aggregate, and keep the site secure. We do not track individual visitor profiles. We do not sell personal information. We may disclose your information to third-party service providers, but only for the purpose of rendering services to us.
3. Analytics and Cookies
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site. We have imposed the following limitations to minimize data collection and use:
• Google Signals is off.
• Granular location and device data are off.
• Enhanced measurement is limited to page views, scroll depth, and outbound clicks only.
• Data retention is generally limited to 2 months (except to the extent required by law or by UF policies).
You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by using the opt-out resources Google and the Network Advertising Initiative provide.
MFN does not currently use any cookies beyond Google Analytics, and does not display a cookie consent banner. If MFN later adds advertising cookies, a login system that sets its own cookies, or any other cookie use beyond analytics, this section should be revisited and a consent banner may be required.
4. Florida Public Records Notice
Please note the following paragraphs of the University of Florida Online/Internet Privacy Statement:
“Under Florida law, email addresses are public records. If you do not want your email address released in response to a public records request, do not send electronic mail to the University. Instead contact us at the phone number and/or address provided at the bottom of this Supplement.”
“Under the Florida Public Records Laws, certain records in our possession are subject to inspection by or disclosure to members of the public. Client information retained after transmission of the requested Web page will be available for inspection.”
These policies apply to information you submit through this website, including web forms.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell personal information. We use what you submit only to respond to your request or provide the service you asked for. We may share information with service providers who help us run the site (for example, analytics and email delivery), to comply with a legal obligation, or to protect the security of the site and our users. Currently, the only named third-party service is Google Analytics. Once the email/SMTP provider for the contact form is finalized, that provider will be named here as well.
6. Children’s Privacy
The site is intended for adults. If you are under 13, do not create an account or otherwise submit personal information to this Website. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if we learn we have, we will delete it.
7. Your Choices and Rights
You can choose not to provide optional information, though some features may not work without it. You can opt out of analytics as described above. You can also contact us with questions about the information we hold.
If you are in the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you additional rights — to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. For further information about how we comply with GDPR, refer to the University of Florida Online/Internet Privacy Statement. 8. Data Security and Retention
To protect the information we collect, we employ security tooling that monitors and blocks unauthorized access attempts. No method of internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot prevent all data breaches. To protect yourself, avoid disclosure of personal information not necessary for your intended purposes. Our data retention policies are subject to the requirements of the State of Florida and the University of Florida, which may change in the future without notice. Specific retention periods by data category are documented in the companion Data Management & Retention document.

Our site may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices or content, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies before submitting any personal information.

We may update this Supplement from time to time. The current version will always be posted on the site, with the date below revised accordingly.
